Sheikh Muhammad West, born in Cape Town, South Africa, spent most of his youth growing up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He went on to study a degree in Islamic theology and dawah at the Islamic University of Madinah while completing a degree in accounting science through the University of South Africa. Shaykh returned to Cape Town in 2011 graduating 2nd in the faculty of Dawah. On his return, he completed his articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers and further qualified as a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
A devoted husband and father of three, Sheikh Muhammad is the Senior Group Financial Accountant at one of the world’s largest retailers and holds the position of finance director for the Islamic Online University. He is the resident Imam of the Boorhaanol Islam Masjid, one of the oldest mosques in South Africa. He also serves as the Western Cape director of the Imam Development Project (IDP) whereby local Imams from underprivileged communities are given the necessary support and skills to further benefit the communities they serve.
