AlKauthar welcomes all those who want to enrich their lives with knowledge. No matter what your qualification may be, you can attend our courses as long as you are capable enough to take professional university level seminars. So whether you are young or old, male or female, Muslim or non-Muslim, you are all welcome to attend our superb courses.
We would like to advise however that due to the intensive nature of our courses, we would require our students to be suitably qualified. In this regard, any student below the age of 15 will require special permission and will need to undergo a special test to gauge his/her ability to attend the courses. Please email info@alkauthar.org for more information.
-
There are no pre-requisites for the courses that will be run. However in the future there may well be pre-requisites for some of the higher level courses that build on previous knowledge. An example is Herisiology 101 which will require the completion of a number of courses before it. Similarly, Fiqh of Business transactions 201 will require that you have sat for Fiqh of Business 101. For more information, please see the following page: Direction and Requirements

AlKauthar pays the highest attention to having the best, most qualified people on board. We firmly believe that student satisfaction and performance is largely dependant on the excellence of the teacher. It is for this reason, why we strive to have the most engaging, exciting and brilliant instructors. We pride ourselves in being able to hire qualified and capable teachers who are able to connect with the students. We make every effort to ensure that our instructors take professionalism, effectiveness and expertise to the maximum.
From our criteria for instructors is that they have a higher education degree, previous experience in teaching university level courses, be a dynamic speaker, professional conduct and character, superb mannerism and ability to impart knowledge using modern technology.
Our instructors themselves go through an instructor training session inorder to be aquainted with AlKauthar's educational culture before they give their first course.

Upon the completion of one of our courses, if you wish to attain credits for the course (or to just test your learning), you will be required to sit for a final written exam. The exam will be held 2 or 3 weeks after the completion of a course. It is our intention that this exam is designed in such a manner, so as to help the student give himself honest feedback, increase his/her understanding of the topic and identify any problems encountered. The exams will rely heavily on case based teaching strategies to fully test a student's ability to understand and deduce facts. It will consist of a combination of multiple choice, true or false, short answer and essay questions.
Those who have attended our courses in the past will agree that the exams are themselves a fantastic learning experience testing not only the memory, but also deductive thinking and critical analysis.
-
If a student is unable to take the exam due to an acceptable valid reason, then he/she is requested to write to studentaffairs@alkauthar.org and an alternative arrangement will be made inshaAllah. We would like to point out however that our policies are quite strict as far as exams are concerned and a change in exam timings is only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Please see the following link for more information: Exam policy.
-
To complete a course, a student is required to do 16 hours of instructor led classes. The student is also expected to spend around 10 more hours in his/her own time revising and going through the lessons - however this is left up to the student.
For more information on course timings and structure, please see the following link: Course Flexibility
-
AlKauthar follows a strict policy of requiring all students to attend all classes. Exceptions are only made in dire and exceptional unavoidable circumstances. Therefore we are unable to offer distance courses at this time. This is a feature that may be available in the near future.
The main reason why we are so strict in this matter is because of the case based learning methodology that we are using to impart knowledge which requires active participation. Also, critical analysis and deductive reasoning is emphasised throughout our courses. We believe that a student cannot develop this to an appropriate level without physically sitting for the course.
-
AlKauthar cannot take the legal responsibility that baby sitting entails. This is why we will not be providing baby sitting facilities.
However that which some of our previous students have done may provide an answer to this problem. Many parents attending courses have opted to collectively seek childcare facilities to ensure a baby sitter to look after their children. Please do not let the issue of childcare hinder you from gaining knowledge. We are sure that with the right amount of effort, you will be able to find a way of taking care of your family as well as your knowledge.
-
AlKauthar has designed its courses as university level courses that will aim to impart a high level of knowledge. However this does not mean that the content will be beyond your ability. Rather our instructors prepare their courses keeping in mind all levels of students and therefore structure the content such that the basics are taken care of before the more difficult issues.
In this way, our courses are suitable for both the beginner as well as the intermediate to advanced student.
-
If you are only able to attend 1 day of the weekend of the course, you may seek approval to do the second day of the course at another venue. Please note however that the final exam does cover all the material covered in both the days.
As far as fees are concerend, you would still need to pay for the full cost of the course irrespective of your attendance.

At AlKauthar, our intention is to be and to produce students who are the most knowledgable of mankind about the truth and the most merciful of them to creation. With this view in mind, we believe that the only label that truly befits us is - Muslim (full stop). This is a matter which we take to very seriously and enforce in our courses and forums. We treat all controversial matters in an academic manner and we do not tolerate name calling or labeling nor the mentioning of groups and individuals.
If you want a place where you can study your religion without having to worry about names and titles, without worrying about labelling and being labelled - then you have found just the place. We are sure that you will find our courses a refreshing, pure, energising and rejuventating study of the topic inshaAllah.
-
For 2008, we are offering courses in UK, Australia, South Africa and opening up in India inshaAllah. In the future years, we plan to offer the courses in numerous cities within these countries as well as expand to other countries around the world inshaAllah.

If it important for our students to realise that we are a non-profit institute. Charging for our courses allows us to be professional and financially independent. It also helps us in focusing on imparting education and not on fund raising. In addition, we usually only give value to things that we have a financial commitment towards.
Despite all that, AlKauthar promises that we will never turn a student away due to financial difficulties. We will try to help you in any way possible, firstly by implementing a viable payment plan. If this fails then, helping you in finding someone to sponsor you. If that fails, then helping you with someone who would like to pay some zakat money to help a student study. In short, we will do our level best in helping you to attend our courses. A limited number of scholarships from people willing to sponsor financially challenged students may be available - however there is no guarantee in that.
Please email: accounts@alkauthar.org with any enquiries about payment or inorder to setup a payment plan. Alternatively, please email: studentaffairs@alkauthar.org with any enquires about scholarships and our fee help policy.

The default without doubt is that Islamic knowledge is to be provided free. This is because no one owns this knowledge except Allah.
However it is permissible to charge for the value added services that goes along with knowledge, such as the book in which the knowledge is printed, or the cassette in which the talk is recorded and the service and effort that went into its production. It is for this reason why we find the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam who had forbidden a person from taking money for teaching the Quran, permitting his companions to take money for performing ruqyaa (quranic healing with recitation) on others. This was in order to teach us that the money was for the service provided and effort expended in delivery, not for the knowledge itself.
It is in the same way, that we intend that we are not charging for the knowledge itself, rather for the value added services that come along with it - such as the cost of maintaining the workers who run a world class institute that promises to have thousands of students, the cost of the professional venues, our IT infrastructure and IT personnel who manage it, travel and boarding costs for our instructors, marketing and publishing costs etc.. Charging for the courses allows us to be professional, not fund raise to maintain our costs, ensures that we have a longer lasting viable future, allows us to concentrate on teaching and improving our institute to become a world leader and pioneer in modern methods of delivering classical Islamic education.
Appart from this, one of the problems with living in such a materialistic society is that we only tend to pay attention to that which we have a financial commitment to. How many lectures and halaqas do you know of where people attended initially and then lost their interest because they had no commitment and so became care free? Also how many Islamic teachers that you know of who can't afford the time to teach or benefit the people to their full extent because they are busy working trying to make a living? Wouldn't it be better if they were provided a livelihood in a profession that entailed teaching the people so that the people benefitted?
Similarly, living in western countries, without the presence of a baytul-maal (Treasury) nor an Islamic government to provide funds for these lectures, it falls upon the people themselves to invest in their future and the future of their progeny and pay for courses like these.
AlKauthar is a non-profit venture so we aim to direct all profits back into beneficial community projects. The fee for our courses are optimized to be in tune with the costs of running the lectures and administration of the institute along with providing funds to expand and run other Islamic ventures.
In addition to all of this, we will never turn any student away due to financial reasons. It is because of this that we have trained our officers to work with our students and agree to a fee payment plan to help them pay for the courses. Please email accounts@alkauthar.org if you want any help working out a payment plan.

The current cost of each course for 2008 is £60 for UK, AU$95 for Australian courses, ZAR495 for South African courses and Rs950 for Indian courses. This cost is based on 16 hours of instructor led seminars with a professional 60-100 page folder, in professional venues accompanied by online content and feedback, followed by an examination and certification and credit towards a diploma or degree. The final cost of a course has been designed after intensive shurah and market research of student capabilities and comparing that with our vision for the institute and the need to impart religious knowledge effectively. This allows us to provide a world class institute focusing on delivering university level courses delivered by local as well as international lecturers.
If this cost is not viable for you, then you should contact our Accounts department on accounts@alkauthar.org so that we can work out a payment plan for you or make alternative arrangements to help you.
For more information on costs and registration policies, please see the following link: Registration Policy and Course fees

After careful analysis and consultation, we decided that it was not enough to merely provide our students with islamic knowledge without also equipping them with essential modern skills that are required by everyone to call to the deen with effectiveness. The first thing a graduate from an islamic institution is required to do is give a talk - so the student must have essential public speaking skills. Then he/she needs to communicate effectively with the public - this requires him/her to be a good communicator and effective motivator. Frequently a person of knowledge is required to be an Imam or a Sheikh and therefore will require adequate leadership training. Many a times, he/she will need to setup a centre or venture or business - and so will require the appropriate know how to do that. He/she would need to be efficient at delivering lecturers using modern presentation technology - therefore IT software mastery is essential. He/she would be required to manage a team and maximise its potential - and therefore require training in the skills of management.
At AlKauthar, we plan to address these issues and others. We have designed our program so that our graduates are amongst the most qualified students of knowledge in the world to preach this religion into the 21st century and beyond. These essential core skills will not only help the student preach his religion, but will also help him in his day to day life inshaAllah.

Our course fee was designed to be optimzed to cater for our model of intensive university level courses geared towards obtaining a diploma or degree. In view of that, we deeply apologize to those who are charged with also having to pay for other family members - as we are unable to provide any further discounts. If we were to provide discounts, we would need to recooperate our costs by increasing the fees of the remaining students and thus cause harm to others.
If there is a single bread earner in the family and both the husband and wife would like to study, then we urge you to get in touch with us so that we may devise an appropriate payment plan. Alternatively, if the burden is too high, we may be able to provide scholarships in such circumstances, however there is no guarrantee of that.
We urge you to get in touch us on: accounts@alkauthar.org. You can also have a look at the section on Fee payment plans for more information. We will never turn a student away because of financial difficulty. That is our promise.
Let us help each other in making AlKauthar viable as well as affordable to all.

If you complete a course and pass the exam successfully, you receive credits towards a diploma or degree. For every 3 courses you successfully complete you will be issued with a transcript of results outlining the fact that you have successfully completed those courses. The transcript will also outline your current credits tally and how many courses you need to complete in which faculty to achieve a diploma or degree.

We acknowledge that the default is that knowledge must be sought purely for the sake of Allah. However at the same time, we find that Allah has permitted business and trade during Hajj time. Similarly, the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam used to announce that for he who kills a combatant in a battle wins his possessions. All of this despite the fact that Hajj and fighting in the path of Allah is only to be done purely for the sake of Allah.
A number of scholars such as Imam At-Tabari and Ibn Hajr may Allah have mercy on them - deduced from these reports that as long as a person's intention for the hereafter superseeds and is higher than his intention for something of this dunya, then his action is still correct and his intention is not polluted by wanting a matter of this world. Based on this, it is permissible for a person to desire a diploma or degree in Islamic studies as long as his primary intention through this is for the hereafter.
In addition, what we find nowadays is that a degree of diploma opens a lot of doors and opportunities for dawah - which might have been otherwise closed. It is the modern form of Ijaaza (Scholarly consent of authority). It is for this reason why we have also chosen to make our courses geared towards obtaining a degree. And Allah knows best.
